A Scrap Of Paper
Illinois State University

Translated from the 1860 bourgeois comedy Les Pattes de mouche, A Scrap of Paper follows Prosper and Clarisse, former lovers who have been parted by circumstances. Prosper returns three years later to find Clarisse married to Vanhove. Prosper has returned to court Clarisse's sister Marthe, who is in love with Paul, a young student. Prosper obtains Clarisse's indiscreet last letter to him, which had remained hidden for three years. And thus begins a battle of wits to keep the scrap of paper in the right hands, and to get everyone to the right partner in time, in this timeless farce.
